[ARCHIVED] Apollo 11 Launch Reenactment

Image of Saturn V launching into space

Meet us at the Pat & Lou Sisbarro Field Saturday, July 13 at 7pm for a LIVE reenactment of the Apollo 11 launch brought to you by FLARE and the NMSU Astronomy Department. FLARE member Dave Kovar brings us a motorized replica of Saturn V Launch Complex 39, and scale model Saturn V Rocket.

The reenactment will include pre-ignition motors in the base of the launch pad to simulate the ignition of the Saturn V F-1 engines. Hear the countdown audio beginning with John F. Kennedy’s “We Choose to Go to the Moon” speech, concluding with the final minute of the Apollo 11 countdown leading to lift off.

Please gather at the field at 7 for the launch at 7:30pm

Following the launch, NMSU’s Astronomy Department will open the Tombaugh Observatory for night sky viewing from 8pm-10pm
