AVAILABLE VOLUNTEER SERVICES IN LAS CRUCES AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES

Volunteers needed for variety of assignments. Join RSVP, share your skills and make new friends. Four (4) hours per week will give you supplement and life insurance while volunteering. Please contact RSVP at 528-3000.

Hispanic Outreach Volunteer Flexible days / hours

 

Increase awareness of AARP in Hispanic Communities

 

Boys & Girls Club

Van Driver

 

Drive children to and from field trips

Field Trip Chaperon/Driver

Stay and help staff watch over children off Club property.

Branigan Cultural Center

Gift Shop Clerk

M- 10-12, & F-2-5 pm

 

Answer phone & handle small sales in Gift shop. Greet visitors and have those sign guestbook.

Commission for the Blind

Read to the blind

M-F Flexible

 

Read materials presented, including: mail, bills, textbooks and other materials.

Cost of Living

Surveyor--Meet quarterly (January, April, July, Oct)

 

Survey taken at beginning of each quarter-January, April, July and October. Prices are taken on items for Survey.

Counseling & Recovery

Clerical/Counselor

2-3 days/week, 1-6:00 p.m.

 

Answering telephones, filing, shredding, assisting in drug screenings, faxing documents, mail distribution.

DAC Advocates for Children & Families

Clerical

8:30-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday

 

Answer telephone, ability to use various office machines. Knowledge of Peachtree, QuickBooks.

Department of Motor Vehicles

Camera Operator

M-F 9-5 flexible hours  

 

Operate a computerize camera to take photos for driver's license.

Interpreter

M-F 9-5 flexible hours 

Help out front clerks with Spanish speaking customers and translate.

3 rd District Court

Greeter-Information Specialist

M–8-12 & T– 1-5 p.m. Bilingual helpful.

 

Greet and direct court visitors to their requested location. Back-ground check required.

Doña Ana County Humane Society

Animal socializes/Dog Walker

M-F 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon

 

 

Volunteer to play with and exercise dogs and cats at the Humane Society.

Doña Ana County Detention

Program Assistant – Flexible

 

Monitor classes, assist teachers with educational materials.

Filing Assistant- M-F 3-4 hours daily.

Assist records specialist with filing records in alphabetical order.

Library Aide--Hours open

Answer phones, typing, filing, label books, sort books by subject.

Habitate for Humanity

Education/Construction Supervisor

 

Have skills to help build Habitat Homes for low-income purchasers. Supervise volunteers in their duties.

Hacienda del Sol

Receptionist--M-F 1-5 pm

 

Greet visitors, distribute food, clothing & cleaning supplies to clients.

Jardin de los Niños

Children's Story Teller-Flexible-M-F

Morning preferred 30 minute sessions.

 

Play with the children, read stories, complete puzzles and provide one-on-one attention.

Oñate High School

Math & English Tutor

M-F 2-3 hours weekly

 

Comply and follow teachers plan, tutor students before, during and after school.

Keep Las Cruces Beautiful (KLCB)

Environmental Education Specialist-Flexible.

 

Make presentations to school children about the benefits of conserving our environment. K-5 grades. All schools in district.

Board Member

1 st Tuesday each month at 12:00 noon

Room 101, 575 S. Alameda

Attend monthly meetings at noon , provide input into KLCB concerns, participate in special KLCB events, and promote KLCB in community. Must reside in City limits.

Grounds Maintenance Flexible, 1 hr/ wk

At City hall landscape, pull weeds, pick up litter/cigarette butts, and make gravel smooth.

Children's Program Volunteer

 

Participate /facilitate activities with children. Provide supervision to children during staff meetings.

Donation Room Attendant

Sorting donated items and clothing for quality, size and use. Arrange room for accessibility of these items.

Las Cruces High School

Algebra I & II Tutor

M-F 7:30-8:40 a.m. ; 3:40-5:00 p.m.

 

Tutor students in Algebra I and II

Las Cruces Police Dept

Victim Advocate (1 year commitment)

M-F 5-10 hr monthly

 

Volunteer Victim Advocates will advocate and/or refer victims to Social Services & within the Criminal Justice System.

Las Cruces Senior Citizens Corp.

Canteen Clerk

M-F 7:00 a.m.-10:45 a.m.

 

Collect & count monies and make coffee. Buy, sell donuts.

Kraft Nook Clerk

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:00-1:00 p.m. ( bi-lingual preferred)

Sell merchandise and keep records. Must enjoy working with the senior population and at a Senior Center .

Saturday Dance Volunteer/Coordinator

8:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m.

Assistant to attend when guard is not here. Count money and make deposit.

Quality Senior Services

Van Driver Mesilla

10:00-2:00 p.m. Monday-Friday

 

Following driver safety policies and procedures, shuttling guest to specific locations.

Mesilla Site Coordinator Assistant

10:00-2:00 p.m. Monday-Friday

Assist in preparation of menu items. Assist in the preparing the serving line.

Receptionist @ Mesilla Comm. Ctr.

7-10a.m. or 10-1 p.m. or M-F 1-4 pm

Greet and welcome guests at the front desk, answer and route telephone calls, take messages etc

Senior Programs (Nutrition)

Cashier

M-F 12: 15-12:30 p.m. Bilingual preferred.

 

Count & verify money received from lunches. Must like working with seniors.

Dining Room Attendant

10:30-12:00 p.m. Monday-Friday

Make coffee, clean tray, serve disabled seniors, set tablecloths and may rotate to other centers as needed.

Social Security Administration

Clerk M-F (3-6 hrs daily flexible)

 

Photocopy documents, file folders, open incoming mail and other office tasks.

Tax Counselors (TCE)

February-April 2005

 

 

Assist and prepare tax returns for seniors and low income families.
