Museum of Art Reading Art Book Club Meets November 14th 2018

The Reading Art Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 14th at the Las Cruces Museum of Art, 491 N. Main St. People attending this event should note this is a slightly earlier start time.

This month’s selection is “50 Women Artists You Should Know,” by Christiane Weidemann.

This book offers more than 500 years of achievements in art by women. This beautifully produced, richly detailed, and comprehensive survey of 50 influential women artists from the Renaissance to the Post-Modern era details their vast contributions to the art world. From the Early Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi and the 17th-century illustrator Maria Sibylla Merian, to impressionists Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot, and modern icons such as Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe and Louise Bourgeois, the most important female artists are profiled in this book in chronologically arranged double-page spreads.

There is a succinct biography for each artist, with information outlining their accomplishments and influences, additional resources for further study, and, best of all, brilliant full-color reproductions of the artists’ works. Packed with information, this stunning and absorbing book showcases the remarkable artistic contributions of women throughout history.

Reading Art Book Club meetings are free to the public. Join us even if you haven’t read the book! For information or for details on book selections, contact Bryan Lee, curator of education at the Museum of Art, at 575/541-2217 or by email at: blee@las-cruces.org.
