Bomb Threat Suspect Identified, Charged 2018

Police have arrested the man suspected of calling in a bomb threat Wednesday at a local eatery.

Emmanuel Soriano, 35, of the 800 block of Lees Drive, is charged with one count of unlawful bomb scare. The charge is a crime against public peace and is a fourth-degree felony.

About noon on Wednesday, Aug. 8, Las Cruces police were dispatched to the report of a bomb threat at the Corner Bakery, 2305 E. Lohman Ave. The business was cleared and nothing suspicious was located.

Police learned that Soriano is related to one of the store’s employees and had made multiple telephone calls to the business during the morning, trying to talk to his relative. The relative refused to take any of his phone calls.

Investigators determined that Soriano called 911 and made the bomb threat. Investigators confirmed that the call came from near Soriano’s residence. Soriano indicated to investigators that he made the bomb threat because the store was no longer taking his calls.

Soriano was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he is initially being held without bond.
