City Council Work Session at EMPSC 2017

The Las Cruces City Council will hold its second in a planned series of off-site work sessions at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the East Mesa Public Safety, 550 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd.

Work sessions are usually held in council chambers at City Hall and are a way for the public to learn about future strategies of the City that will impact the community; receive new information; and see facilities they may not otherwise have the time to visit.

On July 17, the City Council adopted a new strategic plan for the period 2017 through 2022. The strategic plan is a long-term planning tool to assist City Council, administration and associates identify community priorities and budget accordingly. “The very first item on the strategic plan’s list of 20 priorities is holding City Council work sessions in locations and council districts across the city to initiate greater community engagement,” said Mayor Ken Miyagishima. “The strategic plan is time bound, and holding council work sessions outside of City Hall is among the first council initiatives to be achieved in year one.”

Topics for the Nov. 13 work session are:

1. Police Auditor Update

2. Handicap Parking

3. Banking Services Request for Proposal Evaluation Criteria

4. January 1, 2018 Minimum Wage Cost of Living

“It is our hope that bringing City Council work sessions into the community will make it easy and convenient for more people to participate,” Miyagishima said.

The work session will be videotaped and broadcast later on CLC-TV Comcast cable channel 20 and streamed on demand at CLCTV.com
