Nominate Las Cruces to Win $20,000 During “Meet Me at the Park” 2017

This Earth Month, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is collaborating with The Walt Disney Company, including Disney Citizenship, Disney|ABC Television Group and ESPN, to revitalize parks across the U.S. for a third year. The city that receives the most nominations will receive a $20,000 grant for a local park. Vote for Las Cruces online at NRPA.org/BeInspired April1 to April 30.

At the end of April, the city with the most nominations will receive the grant funding. New this year, everyone who nominates a city will be entered into a drawing for a tablet outfitted for the outdoors.

“The City of Las Cruces has more than 100 parks covering more than 700 acres,” said City Manager Stuart C. Ed. “We work extremely hard to improve them and expand our green space so families across the community have safe, enjoyable places to experience the outdoors. We are also being creative in how we develop our parks, utilizing fitness equipment as demonstrated at Twin Parks, and splash pads at Metro Verde Park on the East Mesa and Plaza de Las Cruces in Downtown. A new, inclusive playground is in the works for Young Park. With state funding on the decline, winning that $20,000 grant helps us create a new park or improve an existing one,” Ed said.

“Parks play a significant role in Las Cruces,” said Parks & Recreation Director Sonya Delgado. “They are wonderful venues for community events, birthday parties, weddings and other occasions. Given our desert environment, parks are literally an oasis in Las Cruces.”
