July Events for the Family at the Las Cruces Railroad Museum 2017

The Las Cruces Railroad museum hosts activities during the month of July for the whole family to enjoy!“Mrs. Prickett’s Story Time” is at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 13. Join Mrs. Prickett and her delightful puppets as they read books and tell stories. A related activity appropriate for pre-school children will follow the story. Another story time for children is at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 15.

The whole family is invited to participate in Family Game Day from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 8. Challenge your family and friends to a round of old-fashioned fun! The museum provides a variety of games that have been popular for centuries, as well as wooden and jigsaw puzzles.

On Saturday, July 8 the National Model Railroad Association will hold their monthly meeting, which is open to the public. Learn techniques for building and enhancing model train layouts.

Coloring Club for adults will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, July 14 and Friday, July 21. It’s fine if you like to color outside the lines or use unexpected colors! Bring your own book and colored pencils, or use our materials. We have a wide variety of pages ready to be colored, from simple pictures to intricate designs.

Do you like to read and discuss books? Rail Readers Book Club meets on the third Wednesday of the month. On July 19, watch the video The Silence of Cricket Coogler. This documentary relates the account from the book Cricket in the Web, which was a previous book club book.

During summer hours on July 26, from 5 –6 p.m., enjoy movie night and watch two short documentaries about the early days of railroading: Railroads in U.S. History 1830-1840, and Railroads in U.S. History 1841-1860. Each video lasts 30 minutes, and are not rated. Bring your own popcorn!

The museum is located at 351 N. Mesilla St. and is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
