Meet the Artist – Brack Morrow 2017

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will host a Meet the Artist event featuring Brack Morrow at 6 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center (304 W. Bell Ave). Meet the Artist brings the creators of local public art work together with the community to discuss and experience the works they have created.

Curiosity is the material at the center of Brack Morrow’s art, and that center is positioned directly at the intersection of art, science, and music. His art includes sculpture, film, photography, performance and sound art, and is inspired by his interests in neuroscience, music, visual art and ecology. Morrow’s most recent work, the Earth Aural Rover (EAR1) project, features a full-scale remote control solar powered rover vehicle, inspired by NASA’s ongoing Mars Curiosity mission. Rather than building his rover out of high tech material, EAR1 is built entirely out of musical instruments. Rather than explore for possible life on other planets, his project explores Earth’s nature and experiments with how we listen and express our home environment.

EAR1 is currently completing missions of exploration across the United States. Brack Morrow received a BFA in sculpture from New Mexico State University and holds an MFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. Morrow is currently adjunct faculty at El Paso Community College as he and his wife, artist Stephanie Wagner, live and work from their studios in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

This is a free event. For more information, call Recreation Programs at 575/541-2454.
