Deputy Chief DunivanChief Jaime Montoya

Welcome and thanks for visiting the Las Cruces Police Department’s webpage. We are honored to serve the citizens and visitors of our community and hope you find this site useful.

The Las Cruces Police Department is comprised of a unique and diverse workforce that includes 83 civilian employees and 200 commissioned officers who patrol more than 77 square miles of incorporated city limits. The men and women of the department answer approximately 150,000 calls for service each year and generate roughly 40,000 reports.

The Las Cruces Police Department is accredited by the New Mexico Municipal League and is the largest municipal agency accredited by NMML. Accreditation was a three-year process that was achieved by the hard work of all members of our organization and something we are extremely proud of.

The services we provide include general police services: Criminal Investigations, Metro Narcotics, Specialty Units, Victims’ Assistance, Codes Enforcement and Animal Control.

We are enhancing our community policing initiatives by partnering with Neighborhood Watch organizations, participating in community meetings, implementing geographical area commands and ensuring accountability through regular evaluation of our deployment’s efforts. The department has been awarded a USDOJ COPS Hiring Program grant in fiscal year 2017 to hire nine officers who will be dedicated to community policing in our neighborhoods. These officers will be working in partnership with the community and we hope to achieve the goals of the agency and the City of Las Cruces to make our great community an even safer place to live and visit. We will work with the community to develop philosophies which promote fair and equitable treatment between citizens and police.

On behalf of the men and women who selflessly and passionately work day and night to keep you, your family and the community safe – thanks you for your support.

If you have any questions, comments, commendations or complaints, please let us know and we will promptly address your concerns or issues.

Sincerely,

Jaime Montoya
