2017 Teen Chaos Collaboration
The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department would like to thank all teen artists for submitting their work to our third annual “Chaos Collaboration”, an art show with music performances for teens by teens; bringing a fresh perspective to local culture. The event was a success and we look forward to doing it again! Here's a slide show of this year's highlights!
Great American Cleanup Citywide Cleanup Set for April 8, 2017
The Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Parks & Recreation and New Mexico Clean and Beautiful programs will host the annual Great American Cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 8, 2017. Hundreds of volunteers will collect litter at parks, schools, streets and business properties. Volunteers will then be treated to a free lunch hosted by Walmart. The lunch will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Walmart on Walton Boulevard in Las Cruces. Last year, 900 volunteers from 60 local groups and organizations collected more than 13 tons of litter during the annual event, previously known as Trek for Trash. Individual volunteers, groups and civic organizations are encouraged to register before April 3, 2017 for this year’s Great American Cleanup campaign, which is a great opportunity to show pride in Las Cruces. Session II Registration - Gymnastics & Tumbling Classes
The Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will hold registration for Session II (Feb. 6-March 2) of gymnastics and tumbling classes at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell St., Jan. 30 – Feb. 7, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Each session consists of eight classes.
Reuse & Recycle Fashion Show
In honor of Earth Day, Keep Las Cruces beautiful is hosting the fifth annual Reuse and Recycle Fashion Show, which presents outfits made from reused and recycled materials. Currently seeking participants of all ages. All welcomed for free to enjoy the show. Find out more!
2017 Spring Youth Sportsmanship Basketball League
The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will hold registration for individual and returning team registration for the 2017 Spring Youth Sportsmanship Basketball League from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Parks & Recreation Administration Office, 1501 E. Hadley Ave. Cost is $40 per individual due at registration, which includes a game jersey. The league is offered to Pre-K through 8th grade levels, as of the 2016/17 school year. Find out more!
Lifeguard Training Courses
The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department is offering two lifeguard training courses for 2017. If you are 15 years of age or older and looking for a summer job, the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Program is a great place to start. Lifeguarding allows you to work as part of a team to help people safely enjoy the water. You could even save a life! Learning is fun and easy! Find out more!
Spring 2017 After School Program Registration
The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting returning participants’ payment for the 2017 spring session of the After School Program at the Parks & Recreation Administrative office, 1501 East Hadley Ave. For current participants only, payments will be taken Monday, Nov. 28 – Tuesday, Dec. 20. Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Any slots not paid for by Tuesday, Dec. 20, will be opened to the public on Wednesday, Dec. 21 and remain open until the site is filled. The school sites (50 participants per site) for children kindergarten through fifth-grade are Alameda Elementary, Cesar Chavez/Sunrise Elementary, Fairacres Elementary, Hermosa Heights Elementary, Highland Elementary, Mesilla Park Elementary, Monte Vista Elementary and Valley View Elementary. The cost per semester is $360, or four payments of $90. All session program hours are Monday through Friday, 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. and follow the LCPS school calendar. A 10% discount will be offered for full payment of the spring semester before January 9, 2017! If monthly payments are not made by the specified deadlines, participation in the program will be halted and the participants spot forfeited. Acceptable payments include cash, check, money orders, and major credit cards (VISA, Discover or MasterCard) and debit cards. Youth Scholarship Fund Accepting Applications
The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will accept applications for the Youth Scholarship Fund for youth programs and activities presented through June 2017. The intent of the scholarship fund is to offer assistance to youth wanting to participate in recreational opportunities, who may not otherwise have the means. Youth Mural Arts Program
The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department announces the start of a Mural Arts Program for local youth, grades 7– 12. The program is currently seeking teens with artistic ability and a desire to transform their community. Participants will become part of a skilled team capable of producing high quality public art.
