Call for teen artists and performers!
2017 Teen Chaos Collaboration

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department is issuing a call for teen artists to submit their work for our third annual “Chaos Collaboration”, an art show with music performances for teens by teens; bringing a fresh perspective to local culture. “Chaos Collaboration” empowers teen artists to create artwork for exhibition, showcasing their skills and their contribution to community culture. Spring 2017 After School Program Registration

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting returning participants’ payment for the 2017 spring session of the After School Program at the Parks & Recreation Administrative office, 1501 East Hadley Ave. For current participants only, payments will be taken Monday, Nov. 28 – Tuesday, Dec. 20. Monday – Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. Any slots not paid for by Tuesday, Dec. 20, will be opened to the public on Wednesday, Dec. 21 and remain open until the site is filled. The school sites (50 participants per site) for children kindergarten through fifth-grade are Alameda Elementary, Cesar Chavez/Sunrise Elementary, Fairacres Elementary, Hermosa Heights Elementary, Highland Elementary, Mesilla Park Elementary, Monte Vista Elementary and Valley View Elementary. The cost per semester is $360, or four payments of $90. All session program hours are Monday through Friday, 2:30 – 5:30 p.m. and follow the LCPS school calendar. A 10% discount will be offered for full payment of the spring semester before January 9, 2017! If monthly payments are not made by the specified deadlines, participation in the program will be halted and the participants spot forfeited. Meerscheidt Recreation Gym to Close for Maintenance

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will close Meerscheidt Recreation’s League Gym, 1600 E. Hadley, for its annual maintenance Dec. 21 through Jan. 4. The gym will reopen Jan. 5. During the temporary closure, modified programming will be available in the recreational gym, Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For more information, call 575/541-2563.


Youth Scholarship Fund Accepting Applications

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will accept applications for the Youth Scholarship Fund for youth programs and activities presented through June 2017. The intent of the scholarship fund is to offer assistance to youth wanting to participate in recreational opportunities, who may not otherwise have the means. Youth Fitness and Nutrition Camp During Holiday Break

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will offer a Fitness and Nutrition Camp during the Las Cruces Public School’s holiday break. The camp will be offered to students in grades 3 through 6 the week of Dec. 26 – 30, from 7:45 a.m. to noon at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave. Registration will begin Monday, Nov. 14, at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center; the Parks & Recreation administrative office, 1501 E. Hadley Ave. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and at Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E Hadley Ave. Monday through Friday,8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Camp fee is $50 per participant. This camp will offer a variety of fitness classes, nutrition projects, trail walking/running and provide education and demonstration on healthy eating habits. GYMNASTICS Winter Camp

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will hold registration for gymnastic camp at the Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell St., beginning Monday, Nov. 28, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. The two-week camp will be Dec. 26, 2016 – Jan. 6, 2017 at the East Mesa Recreation Center, 5589 Porter Dr., from 7:45 a.m. – noon. Camp fee is $50 per participant, ages are 5-12. A parent must be present with children during all class times. No unattended children are allowed in the facility or park area. Gymnastic equipment and room are for gymnastics class only during scheduled class times. For more information call 575/541-2455.


Winter Camp 2016-17

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will be accepting registration for the upcoming City of Las Cruces Winter Camp. Winter Camp locations will be at Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell St. and East Mesa Recreation Center, 5589 Porter Road. The camps will run Dec. 26 - 30 and Jan. 2 - 6, 2017. Hours of operation will be 7:45 a.m. - 5:15 p.m. Lunch will not be provided. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch and a snack. Water and Gatorade will be provided. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Nov. 28 through Dec. 16 at the following locations: Administrative office, 1501 E. Hadley Ave., Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1400 E. Hadley Ave., Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center, 1401 E. Hadley Ave., and Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell St. during regular business hours. The cost for the Winter Camp is $90 per participant. Single day enrollment is available at a rate of $15 per day, per participant. Additional cost may be affiliated with any of the field trips your child may attend; fees will be announced before the field trip dates. Winter Adult Indoor 6 v 6 Volleyball League

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will offer registration for the Winter Adult Indoor Volleyball League at Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave. Registration will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 28 through Dec. 3. Spots are limited and available on a first come first serve basis, so register early!!

Participants must be 18 years of age or older to participate. The fee is $250 per team, 50% due at the time of registration and the balance due at the manager’s meeting on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m., and will be held at Meerscheidt Recreation Center. Games begin the week of Jan. 9. The league will offer two divisions: Co-Rec Recreational/Co-Rec Competitive (Teams must contain equal number of males and females on the court at all times) and a Women’s Division. A minimum of eight teams per division are needed. Rosters must have a minimum of six and a maximum of ten players per team.

Indoor Youth Soccer Registration

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will offer registration for individual and returning teams for the Indoor Youth Soccer League. The league is offered to Pre-K through 2nd grade levels, as of the 2016/17 school year. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Nov. 12 and Dec. 3 at 1501 E. Hadley Ave. Cost is $40 per individual due at registration, which includes a game jersey. Returning teams must pay in full and submit a signed roster with a minimum of seven returning players. Returning team player cost is $30 and does not include a game jersey. Space is limited so sign up early. All participants will be required to have a Parks & Recreation activity ID card. For a child to obtain a card, parents or guardians, along with the child, must appear in person at Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave., to fill out a permission form, provide proof of child's age and grade level, and to have the child's photo taken. Cards will be issued from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. All necessary documentation must be submitted by individual players and returning teams during the registration dates before they can be scheduled for league play. A coaches meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 11. At Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave. Games begin the week of January 21.

Youth Mural Arts Program

The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department announces the start of a Mural Arts Program for local youth, grades 7– 12. The program is currently seeking teens with artistic ability and a desire to transform their community. Participants will become part of a skilled team capable of producing high quality public art.
