Our Mission

The day-to-day business of City operations is the responsibility of the city manager, the chief executive officer (CEO), appointed by the Mayor and City Council. The City Manager prepares recommendations and implements the policy direction approved by the mayor and city council, governed by the City of Las Cruces charter. The city manager is responsible for the administration of city services and programs through effective leadership and management. City personnel report to the city manager, who oversees about 1,400 employees and an annual budget of about $300 million. The city manager is assisted by the Chief Administrative Officer and the Chief Operations Officer.

The City of Las Cruces is a full service, home-rule city with a Council-Manager form of government. Las Cruces has a total area of 76.5 square miles and serves more than 101,000 residents. The City of Las Cruces is a business-friendly organization with a balanced budget, a healthy financial reserve, healthy and stable financial ratings, and an affordable cost of living.
