Chief Jaime Montoya
Welcome and thanks for visiting the Las Cruces Police Department’s webpage. We are honored to serve the citizens and visitors of our community and hope you find this site useful.
Chief Jaime Montoya began his law enforcement career in 1991 with the Las Cruces Police Department. He has served as a Patrol officer, detective, DWI officer, Special Services sergeant, Special Services lieutenant and deputy chief in charge of operations and budget before being promoted to Chief of Police in December 2013.
The Las Cruces Police Department is comprised of a unique and diverse workforce that includes 83 civilian employees and 191 commissioned officers who patrol more than 77 square miles of incorporated city limits. The men and women of the department answer approximately 150,000 calls for service each year and generate roughly 40,000 reports. LCPD has a fiscal year 2018 General Fund budget of approximately $26 million.
LCPD is organized into two divisions: Administration and Support Division and Field Operations Division.
The Las Cruces Police Department is accredited by the New Mexico Municipal League and is the largest municipal agency accredited by NMML. Accreditation was a three-year process that was achieved by the hard work of all members of our organization and something we are extremely proud of.
We are enhancing our community policing initiatives by partnering with Neighborhood Watch organizations, participating in community meetings, implementing geographical assignments and ensuring accountability through regular evaluation of our deployment’s efforts. The department has been awarded a USDOJ COPS Hiring Program grant in fiscal year 2017 to hire nine officers who will be dedicated to community policing in our neighborhoods. These officers will be working in partnership with the community and we hope to achieve the goals of the agency and the City of Las Cruces to make our great community an even safer place to live and visit. We will work with the community to develop philosophies which promote fair and equitable treatment between citizens and police.
On behalf of the men and women who selflessly and passionately work day and night to keep you, your family and the community safe – thank you for your support.
Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, commendations or complaints. We will promptly address your concerns or issues.
