Staff gave a presentation on the Plan4LasCruces update to the Planning & Zoning Commission (P&Z) at their regular meeting on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. The P&Z decided to table the Plan for six months.
What is the Plan4LasCruces?
Plan4LasCruces provides a vision of what the city should be, a guide for municipal decision-makers for capital improvements, and a tool for managing community changes that may affect the physical development and maintenance in the city.
The Las Cruces Active Transportation Plan is building on the PLan4LasCruces and other ongoing planning efforts to improve conditions for walking and biking across the City for people of all ages and abilities.
The Planning & Revitalization Section is working on the Plan4LasCruces Update. The Plan4LasCruces public engagement summary was submitted on June 20, 2017 to the Planning & Zoning Commission for their review. A draft plan was submitted on September 19, 2017.

Plan4LasCruces Process Timeline
Phase 1 was an administrative update to the 1999 Comprehensive Plan, and was adopted in 2013. It removed obsolete policies and completed actions, made changes to reflect current operational procedures or plans adopted since 1999, and reorganized the plan into themes instead of elements.
Phase 2 is currently underway and there will lead to substantive changes to the current goals and policies. Recently, the City held a series of public engagement events on the theme of Healthy Community, one of the 4 Themes in Plan4LasCruces. The remaining themes are Community Character, Economic Prosperity, and Sustainable Growth, and each will be addressed over the course of the ongoing plan update. With this extended update process, Plan4LasCruces will be a living document that continues to reflect the vision of the community.
