  1. History Notes--The History of Camp Cody with Jim Eckles

    Jim Eckles will be presenting on the history of Camp Cody. He will talk about the history around this military training camp at Deming, NM, a town of only 2,500 people at the time. Jim Eckles is a local historian and retiree from White Sands Missile Range where he worked for 30 years. His research into Camp Cody opened the door to an all but forgotten chapter in southern New Mexico's World War 1 history and led to a book about the camp that Eckles will use for the basis of his talk.

    This is an introduction class for new young athletes. For most students this is their first classroom experience, and it has been tailored to include the involvement of a parent or guardian. The goal is for students to learn the fundamentals of gymnastics, become comfortable in their environment, and achieve more independence. Skill will be assessed at the discretion of an instructor. Participants found to be in the wrong grouping for their skill level, will be moved to the appropriate class. Participants need to wear clothing they can move in. A parent must be present with children during all class times. No unattended children are allowed in the facility or park area. Gymnastic equipment and room are for gymnastics class only during scheduled class times.

    This class is designed for students with a basic understanding of gymnastics. Students will work to refine basic gymnastics skills. Though completion of the Parent and Me session is not a requirement for this class, it is recommended. Requirements: wall assisted handstand (facing inward), monkey jump, a bridge, front support on bars.
