    The City of Las Cruces and the City Art Board seek an artist or artist team to create a site-specific indoor art project to be designed for the central pillar in the lobby of Las Cruces City Hall. The commissioned artwork will engage the public and the staff at City Hall and should reflect the architectural setting, the purposes of the building, and the City of Las Cruces. Finalists will be encouraged to submit vibrant and dynamic designs inspired by our local environment, history and cultures. The City Art Board seeks artwork that is large enough in scale and scope to provide a focal point and to create appreciation of the space. Submission deadline is May 12, 2019.     Having taught in the Doña Ana Community Education program for more than 30 years, and in other community programs, Jan Archey has taught many adults and children in the Las Cruces area. Her personal work is varied, exploring many styles and techniques. Jan loves to make functional ware and finds great pleasure knowing her work will become part of special family celebrations. Currently, she is working on a series of wall “paintings.” Using minerals, sands and mud from the earth, she is exploring using these materials as “paints.” Her work often consists of a variety of firing techniques from raku to wood-fired ceramics.

  2. KRWG's Beer Confidential Live

    KRWG’s Beer Confidential Live is a live on stage and on-air radio show with beer experts and audience questions hosted by Edmundo Resendez. Premier Distributing will offer free samples and the Rio Grande Theatre will feature four New Mexico beers at $5 each. The event is free to the public and coincides with the first Friday downtown art ramble. We will feature live jazz entertainment outside the Rio Grande Theatre after the live show. This will give audience members an opportunity to sample the New Mexico brews while relaxing with fun jazz music. Concessions, including beer, wine, and spirits, will be sold.
