OBJECTIVE: To streamline communication between local government agencies during the COVID-19 response. Partner organizations include city and county representatives, local hospitals, the Department of Health, jail and prison facilities, first responders, the Las Cruces Public School district, the Town of Mesilla, City of Anthony, City of Sunland Park and Village of Hatch.  

JIC members collaborate on a daily conference call at 10 a.m., Monday through Friday. The notes compiled during that call are made available at www.las-cruces.org and www.donaanacounty.org

The council is conducting virtual meetings in order to comply with the state public health order limiting public gatherings to five or less. In order to provide opportunities for the public to continue participating in the meetings, City Council unanimously approved a public comment resolution for virtual meetings during an emergency at a special meeting on April 24.   

The resolution allows the public to submit input by email to the mayor and/or city clerk and the mayor will read the emails during the meeting. The emails for specific items should include the resolution number, resolution title or description, and the participant’s name for the record. Other emails not related to a specific resolution will be read during public participation. The mayor and city clerk are accepting public input by email at: mayor@las-cruces.org and crivera@las-cruces.org.

DC Smith, LCFD: Residents should continue to follow social distancing guidelines even as restrictions are changed. Follow CDC and Governor recommendation of wearing a face cover while in public or at work. Our regional hospitals have adequate resources on hand, due in part because of the social distancing and precautions being taken. Those persons experiencing a critical medical need such as chest pain or discomfort, signs and symptoms of a stroke, or any other sever medical emergency should call 911, or visit the ER, or contact their primary care office for direction.
