Units

Identification Unit

The identification technicians perform the following tasks:

  • Classify fingerprints
  • Conduct fingerprinting for licensing and job applicants
  • Maintain crime scene photos
  • Maintain print classification files
  • Prepare fingerprint cards
  • Process crime scene evidence
  • Respond to crime scenes to assist with collecting evidence and photography
  • Submit fingerprints to the Division of Criminal Justice Services

Evidence Unit

The evidence technicians are responsible for the control, safekeeping, and disposition of evidence and other property, including many of LCPD’s supplies. Evidence technicians also respond to crime scenes to assist with collecting evidence and photography.

Victims’ Assistance Unit

The Victims’ Assistance Unit is coordinated by Judith Baca. The Victims' Assistance Unit is responsible for enhancing the probability of successful criminal prosecution by helping victims and witnesses through the criminal justice process, assisting crime victims with compensation for their loss, obtaining restitution and orders of protection, and providing case status information. Victim advocates also respond to scenes where they can provide comfort for or console victims of crime or crisis.

Civilian Support Staff

The civilian support staff is responsible for:

  • Answering the Crime Stoppers Phone Line and Answering Questions from the Public
  • Data Collection
  • Dispatching Detectives
  • Entering Pawned Property Information
  • Filing
  • Mailings
  • Reviewing Police Reports
  • Typing Interview Statements
